11 Oct 2012 Confidential On-Site Paper Shredding Chooses Salazar Packaging and Globe Guard® Products for Their Unique Corrugated Application
We are very fortunate to work with a wide range of interesting companies to help them identify and implement eco-friendly, money saving packaging solutions. One of the most recent examples is Confidential On-Site Paper Shredding or “COPS”, a division of Midwest Fiber.
COPS provides their clients with attractive and secured storage consoles that are designed to hold paper waste scheduled for shredding until the onsite shredding unit arrives. Within the console, the paper waste was previously collected in nylon bags that were not holding up as well as desired and were also very expensive. To make matters worse, the bags proved floppy and hard to handle when full. The worst problem however, was the bags could not be recycled, (after a very short life span) and ended up as useless landfill waste. This was not only inconsistent with the COPS approach to sustainability; it was also increasingly costly.
Extending the Life Cycle of Corrugated Containers
The people at COPS contacted us because of our sustainable packaging experience, and specifically, our ability to design corrugated containers for extended life. The variety of tools and resources we use include:
- Box style and design for optimum durability
- Unique and unusual board grades and structures
- Specialty adhesives for extra strength
- Custom coatings (inside and/or outside) to reduce wear and extend life
However, custom is not necessarily synonymous with expensive and we prove it every day by helping our design clients to evaluate “total cost of use” which may include shipping, storage, replacement costs and in reusable applications – life cycle.
The people at COPS understand that and we were able to help them accomplish all of their objectives, including but not limited to unit cost.
