Salazar Packaging Adds Set-Up, Rigid Boxes to Sustainable Packaging Product Line

They are called set-up boxes, rigid boxes and by some, rolled edge or turned edge boxes and are used to package products like fine candy, board games, boxes of greeting cards, or jewelry. What they all have in common is that they are usually attractive enough and sturdy enough to be kept and reused.

Rigid boxes are often used for retail applications but they are also ideal for “(decorative) box within a (shipping) box” applications such as subscription and/or sample programs. Essentially, they are perfect for anytime you want to increase the chance that your container is not going to end up in a landfill because branding is most effective when it can communicate your message continuously.

What Are Set-Up or Rigid Boxes?

Unlike folding boxes that are erected, snapped or folded into usable shape, rigid boxes are pre-formed with sturdy, rigid walls (hence the name). They can be made of a wide variety of materials, but in most cases, the board used is 100% recycled content chip or paperboard. The box consists of two pieces, a base or tray that is open on top and a lid that slips over the tray. The lid can completely overlap the base or it can be a partial overlap for a slightly different “cap” look.

Rigid Boxes Are a Designers Dream

Unlike paperboard folding cartons or corrugated mailers, which in most cases are direct printed (ink to board), set-up boxes are typically covered or “wrapped” in a substrate (printed or unprinted) or paper of your choice. This permits the use of almost any grade or color of paper including foils and laminates. You can print your custom box with just about any graphics and designs, creating a very custom look with no compromises because of print process limitations.

What Are the Minimums and Pricing for Rigid Boxes?

Due to the tremendous variation in size, board type and grade, paper covering, style, and of course, printing, custom printed rigid boxes are unlikely to ever be a stock product and we will not be able to offer a menu of prices. While this is most definitely a custom product, don’t let the word “custom” scare you. Our minimum is a very low 2,500 boxes which makes them an attractive option, even in small quantities.
